UPDATES!!!

Hey guys! It's been a while since I last updated, but I just thought I'd inform you all of some updates! :D I'm doing well and have enjoyed relaxing and getting my priorities together. I've been contemplating grad school applications which are coming up in a few months and also some occupational moves. I am taking my test to be certified to teach K-12 Art courses just in case grad school plans don't happen. I've been working out [almost] daily with my Tae Bo DVDs. Haha, it's been fun. Also, I have launched a few sites to earn some freelance work on the side.

Desiree-Dalessandro.com/realworld

This site was launched to hopefully earn me some income from the students at USF taking the course titled Real World, which consists of developing a rather extensive portfolio. Paypal payments operational!

Desiree-Dalessandro.com/photography

This site was also launched to hopefully earn me some income by offering my photography services in addition to digital retouching packages. See the site for more details. Paypal payments operational!

Lastly, I am currently interested in a new form of art that I've never explored before - Cosplay. What I find really enticing is that it mixes both subjects that I love: Art and Theatre. When going for my degree, I had to choose Art over Theatre and I've REALLY missed it. Dan bought me a brand new Singer Simple sewing machine and I'm really excited to start using it to make myself some costumes. Because I'm an 80's hardcore fangirl, my first costume that launched this obsession was that of Jareth (David Bowie) from the movie The Labyrinth! More pics can be seen HERE.
That's all. Toodles! :D

Going Green Expo is a multifaceted event, with exhibitors, speakers, workshops, & films about going green. I am working with a group of artists that will be performing:

"How We Walk in Tampa": A Participatory Event | Location: USF SunDome, performance stage // 11:30AM. & 2PM // Conducted by Desiree D'Alessandro, Raul J. Romero, Victoria Skelly, and Laura M. Bergeron:
-- "The group has been working with walking as their artistic medium - given the specific ways in which our navigation is structurally organized around the vehicle, these students have been developing walking performance art, trying to use walking as political & aesthetic practice - perhaps because it is such a simple gesture with such critical potential to ignite social awareness..." - R. Borcila [See More @: http://www.goinggreentampabay.com/]

Neighborhood Watch: Projection Walk / Take 2 will take place in Seminole Heights, Tampa on the evening of Saturday, April 12th 2008. The initiating location will be the corner of Nebraska & Powhattan where neighbors will be dispersed maps so that they can navigate the multiple digital projections transforming the facades of neighborhood homes! This is a chance to mingle with the locals, artists, streets, & homes. Only one amazing night - join in! [See More @, see www.NHWproject.info/

Updates have been added across the board: bio/statement, resume, writings, & gallery. Check out the 'Recent' gallery section to view some documentation, gifs, and videos from my solo exhibition 'Elusive.'
This semester marks my last before I graduate with my BFA degree [major: Electronic Media / minor: Art Theory]. I plan to revamp a lot of works from 'Elusive' and create a new interactive installation for an exhibition coming up at the end of Feb. for 'Rising & Falling: How we Walk in Tampa.' It will be a group exhibition further exploring our walking projects [mine being 'Project Sleep Walk/Talk'] and I plan to create a printed publication and website covering our group's endeavors.

Elusive - my interactive solo exhibition - has been open since Monday (1/07) and has been quite successful! Several positive comments and visitors have stopped by, pictures have been taken and reviews have been written! For details on the exhibition, check out the Centre Gallery Website (HERE). There will be a reception this Friday (1/11) from 7-9PM, which will include food & drinks. Also, there will be receptions at the CAM & Oliver Gallery as well. This is not a night to miss!!!

Oracle Excerpt:"It's like walking into an artist's vision of Armageddon. Propped against the sofa are several ornately framed portraits of American presidents rendered in layers of reflective foil and mirrored glass. The coffee table is a jumble of images of grieving women, wounded children and men plummeting from buildings, while the bookshelf plays host to a bag of army men and toy grenades. In the middle stands 22-year-old Desiree D'Alessandro, electronic media major, who is preparing for her 2008 exhibition, Elusive." (MORE)
